Cancer treatment can be one of the most difficult chapters in a person’s life.
Through my Doctor of Oriental Medicine training at Virginia University of Integrative Medicine, I studied in oncology acupuncture, focusing on its role as safe, supportive care option during cancer treatment. Over the years, I have had the privilege of suppoting many patients going through rigors of chemotherapy. I have witnessed their strength, courage, and resilience. I have also seen the fatigue, discomfort, and emotional weight that often accompany this journey.
During this time, patients should not have to worry about finding affordable supportive care or navigating complicated insurance barriers. What they deserve most is compassion, comfort, and a place where they feel supported.
This program is built on three simple principles:
Compassion
Cancer treatment is physically and emotionally demanding. Patients deserve care that is gentle, respectful, and supportive.
Accessibility
Inspired by the spirit of the People's Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA), this program is offered at an affordable rate because we believe that patients facing serious illness should have access to supportive care without financial stress.
Personalized Care
Every patient receives individualized attention and thoughtful treatment.
Whether you are preparing for treatment, currently undergoing chemotherapy, or recovering afterward, our goal is to walk alongside you with care, respect, and understanding.
When possible, some patients begin acupuncture before starting chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Goals during this phase may include:
• supporting overall strength and energy
• promoting relaxation and emotional balance
• improving sleep
• preparing the body for upcoming treatments
Recommended schedule:
1 treatment per week for 2–4 weeks before treatment begins (if time allows)
This is often the most physically demanding phase of treatment. Acupuncture during this period focuses on comfort and symptom support.
Common concerns during this phase include:
• nausea
• fatigue
• dry mouth
• stress and anxiety
• sleep disturbances
• chemotherapy-related neuropathy
Acupuncture sessions are gentle and designed to support overall well-being during treatment.
Recommended schedule:
1 treatment per week during active treatment
Frequency may be adjusted depending on each patient’s energy level and treatment schedule.
After chemotherapy or radiation therapy ends, many patients continue to experience fatigue, neuropathy, or emotional exhaustion.
Acupuncture during recovery may help support:
• energy restoration
• sleep quality
• circulation
• nervous system balance
• emotional healing
Recommended schedule:
1–2 treatments per month during recovery
Depending on each patient’s condition, treatments may include:
• gentle acupuncture
• scalp acupuncture when appropriate
• ear acupuncture
• nervous system calming points
• circulation-supporting points
Treatments are always adapted to the patient’s energy level and comfort.
As Oncology Community Care Program, treatments are offered at a reduced rate.
$40/ session
Our goal is to keep care affordable and accessible so patients can receive consistent support during treatment without financial barrier.
If you or a loved one is going through cancer treatment and looking for gentle supportive care, we would be honored to help.
Important Note: Acupuncture is not a treatment for cancer itself. It is used as a complementary therapy to support comfort and overall well-being during conventional medical care. Patients should always continue working closely with their oncology team.
